This policy explains how the Universal Fire Remote app ("the app") handles information. The app is published by LOGIRA ("we", "us"), based in the United Kingdom. We are the data controller for the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
In short: we do not run any servers for the app, we do not ask you to create an account, and we do not collect or store your personal information ourselves. The app talks directly to your TV over your home network. If ads are shown, Google AdMob collects some device data as described below.
To reconnect to your TVs, the app saves the name, local network (IP) address and pairing token of each Fire TV device you pair, plus which device you used last. This information is stored only on your phone, in the device's secure storage (Android Keystore / iOS Keychain). It is never sent to us. You can remove it at any time by removing the device in the app or uninstalling the app.
The app uses your local Wi-Fi network to find Fire TV devices and send remote-control commands to them. These commands, including any text you type with the app's keyboard, go directly from your phone to your TV on your own network. We do not receive, see or store them.
The app is free and may show ads provided by Google AdMob. When ads are shown, Google may collect and process:
Google uses this data to deliver, measure and, where you allow it, personalise ads, and to prevent fraud. If you are in the UK, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, the app asks for your consent through Google's consent form before personalised ads are shown. You can change your choice at any time from Privacy settings in the app. If you do not consent, you may still see non-personalised ads, which rely on limited data such as your approximate location and the content of the app.
You can also reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of ad personalisation, in your phone's settings. For more information, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy.
We rely on your consent for personalised advertising, and on our legitimate interest in funding a free app for non-personalised advertising and fraud prevention. Storing your paired devices on your phone is necessary to provide the app's core function.
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share any information with anyone other than Google, as described above. Google may process data outside the UK; Google uses appropriate safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, for these transfers.
Paired-device information stays on your phone until you remove it or uninstall the app. Data collected by Google is kept according to Google's own retention policies.
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Ads in the app are limited to content suitable for general audiences.
Under UK data protection law you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent at any time. Because we do not hold personal data about you ourselves, most requests are best handled in the app (removing devices or changing Privacy settings) or directly with Google. You can also contact us using the details below. If you are unhappy with how your data is handled, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
